Lancaster is Facing the Past

Facing the Past is uncovering Lancaster’s overlooked role in the Transatlantic Slave Trade. Through a collaboration between historians, community groups, and local institutions, the project shares stories of slavery and resistance, directly on the map.

The Institute of Historical Research is opening up the past to everyone with Layers of London. Users can explore over 12,500 crowdsourced records layered onto historical maps of the city.
